What Church Leaders Need to Know to Implement California Law AB506
On April 21, 2022, Charlie Cutler, President of ChurchWest Insurance Services (https://churchwest.com) gave a presentation on California AB506, a law to protect children from abuse to ABCOFLASH (American Baptist Churches of Los Angeles, Southwest and Hawaii - https://abcoflash.org ) pastors and leaders. This law categorizes churches in California as "youth service organizations" and requires them to:
* Train ALL church employees of a church and board members AND volunteers working with children and youth regarding child abuse and reporting.
* Do LiveScan background checks of all church employees and volunteers who have direct contact with children and youth.
* Develop written policies for reporting abuse and have 2 mandated reporters present during youth and children's activities.
